For those ardent dog lovers, having a pet around means completing their world. They would go out of their way to fulfill their pet's every need. Though there are people who keep cats and birds at home, the most common pet the world over is the dog. But then, keeping a pet at home calls for a lot of care and attention. There are certain aspects that need to be kept in mind as far as pet care is concerned.

No doubt it is fun having a pet at home, but then you must know how to take care of it. These domesticated animals are just like human beings and taking care of them is not all that simple. As a pet owner you tend to believe that you know everything that needs to be known regarding pet care, but that may not be true.

Well, you could go through the following pet care guidelines to see whether you are actually doing the right thing for your domesticated animal friend.Comb and brush your animal. You could start with a massage to ease out its tense muscles and then comb with upwards strokes first and then downwards. Once your pet is dry, powder it with a special tick or flea powder, especially the feet and behind the ears as the pests breed in these areas.

You should clean your pet's eyes with a soft cotton pad every second day to avoid any kind of eye infections. While these are general guidelines to help you take better care of your pet, you should be constantly be in touch with the vet, taking your domesticated animal for regular check-ups. For drying you should first towel it dry and then use a dryer. It is also advisable to taking blotting paper to dry out the ears, as wet ears are prone to infections.
